My senior year at highschool, I stumbled across this song. (I admit, although I liked alot of classic rock in school, I had my little soft spot for Garth Brooks) I had heard this song on the radio and I knew that for the Christmas production that year, I had to sing it. It took me forever... finding the music, changing the key, trying to fit a Spanish Christmas song into an English Madrigal Dinner show with traditional carols... it was exhausting. But I still love the song. For some reason, it still brings tears to my eyes just to read the lyrics. I think this Christmas, being as strapped for cash and the letters now coming from bill collectors being what they are, the song has shown me how little you have to give to make the most impact on someone. This may not be a big Christmas this year, but I will still be with my family... and that is all that matters.
